Who am I?
Some of us go through life and never find the answer to such question. Well, I can tell you who I think I am until the time of this writing, but God willing, I’ll be able to expand this to more exciting information in the near future. First of all, I consider myself a dreamer. I dream about many things but my biggest dreams are financial independence, having a well balanced life, give my kids the best education possible, end suffering in the world, and finally leave a legacy that will make proud not only those close to me, but society as well. I consider myself an abnormal person with the ongoing burning desire to succeed not matter the hurdles to overcome in the process. Dedication has been part of my life ever since I can remember which has helped me reach many of my goals so far. Dedication can take an everyday man into a superstar if he/she is persistent enough. Some people say I am smart, but they do not know that the secret that lies under is just dedication and perseverance at work. The inherent outcome of my dreams make me an entrepreneur, a father, a health freak at times, a poor philanthropist, and a sad inhabitant of our gorgeous planet earth as we destroy it with our ignorance, greed, and complacency. Carlos Rodriguez was born in the island of Hispaniola many years back in the 70’s to a young couple who luckily enough had the resources to provide me the basic necessities of life plus more. Unlike many others in the island who go through life with scarce resources and opportunities that never come As a kid, I grew up in the beautiful country of The Dominican Republic where I learned not only to be a Dominican, but fortunately had the integral people around me who made me who I am today. Being Dominican has been a blessing that allowed me to live the life many could possibly never experience. As a young adult, I had the opportunity to move to New York City in the late 1980’s which became a turning point in my life.
Dominican Republic to NYC abruptly in a matter of a few hours could be stressing to some. In my case, indigestion lasted for several days as the cultural shock got through me. In NYC, I learned many things besides the English language. NYC showed me how hard you have to work to make a living in the U.S., how inhumane we could be, how time could fly over your head with no warning, how buying senseless material things could give you the false sense of accomplishment many in the US experience. In the early 1990’s my head spun and craziness settled as I joined the United States Marine Corps as a young enlisted island boy. This represented the second biggest turning point in my life. My tour in the service gave me the life changing strengths, discipline, determination, and many other human principles I was not going to acquire elsewhere. However, it also changed my life to the detriment of family closeness and bonding. After four years of duties and many crazy nights of hard core devil dog adventures I decided that getting a higher education should be my next step. This is when I joined the halls of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University where I got the academic foundation to all that resides in my brain. The experience was a life changer, and the memories are valuably irreplaceable. After my graduation from ERAU, I have continued to hop and fly through life in search for that sweet spot of mine. That sweet spot where I will have wealth, serenity, health, love, satisfaction, spirituality, family ties, reciprocation with my fellow human beings, and a close relationship with myself. My sweet spot is out there, waiting for me, and the journey continues……………………
